I wanted them a little more oaty, not to mention I wanted more apple butter to
cakey bar so I had to test that first before sharing it with you!
Are they just
any cakey bar type thing that isn't chocolate (aka a brownie)?

The texture of the
bars is not very pleasant, a little dry and somewhat
cakey, and there is something off in the flavour.
And it isn't only Jamie's, there are dozens and dozens of protein
bars recipes online that come out
cakey instead of
bar - like (here's another example).
Like I said above, the
bars come out pretty
cakey but also really dense in the sense that they seem to be whole - grain yet, well, they're totally grain - free.
I started my search for this recipe by looking for pumpkin blondie recipes — I wanted something that had the seem feel and texture of a brownie, and not
cakey or something like a cookie
bar, so I wanted to eliminate any baking soda or baking powder.
I definitely prefer pumpkin
bars with a pie - like consistency, so these sound great... I made some very
cakey ones a couple weeks ago and while they were good, pie - like is better.
Packed with fruit and seeds, these oat
bars are like a thick,
cakey granola
bar, and so much more exciting than a bag of GORP.
They turned out exactly how I wanted them, thick &
cakey, enough to cut into
bars no problem!
The
cakey nature of the
bar in the picture is due to the coconut flour.
The texture is a lovely
cakey - type
bar that is perfection for breakfast or a healthy snack.
However, my dad and I were loyalists to these snack
bars, which had a dense, but somewhat
cakey consistency.
The
bars will turn out dry and «
cakey» without additional modifications (which I have not perfected).
