As I wrote earlier this week, the scientists there use their own methods to calculate sea ice area that are different from the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
They applied a new method that fills in missing temperatures over seaice by combining satellite data for missing areas with a method known as «kriging,» which calculates missing data by checking nearby temperature station readings.
