I was curious about something new I've seen
called coconut butter.
Also
called coconut butter, coconut oil is extracted from the dried flesh of the coconut.
Though slightly unconventional, this coconut cream recipe (also
called coconut butter) is a favorite with my kids.
Artisana
calls it coconut butter, Nutiva calls it coconut manna, and they're essentially the same.
Not exact matches
For example, if your recipe
calls for 1/2 cup of
butter, you would use 1/2 cup
coconut oil.
TIP: This recipe
calls for
coconut butter (not oil), and although I know that many people don't like
coconut, I promise, the chocolate and peanut
butter totally covers up the
coconut flavor.
The recipe
calls for unsweetened non-dairy milk, like almond, hazelnut or
coconut, a chai tea bag, frozen banana, dates, nut or seed
butter, protein powder, pure vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
If no liquid is
called for, as in Bob's Red Mill GF Brownie Mix, use 3 eggs and 1/2 cup
butter or
coconut oil.
To cook or bake with
coconut oil, simply recipe any recipe that
calls for
butter or oil for
coconut oil in a -LSB-...]
Therefore I grabbed some
coconut oil and subbed that for the
butter called for on the Betty Crocker cake mix box.
Vegans - you can easily make this vegan by using
coconut or olive oil in place of the
butter called for.
My other changes to the original pancake recipe were using pumpkin in lieu of sweet potato (but I put in more than
called for) and
coconut oil in place of
butter.
I do plan to try this recipe as the other recipe
called for shea, coco
butter, and
coconut oil.
Remember that when cooking or baking with
coconut oil, simply replace it in a 1:1 ratio for any recipe that
calls for
butter or oil.

call for
coconut butter * wink, wink *
One question before I happily dive in to make these: Does recipe
call for 1/2 cup
butter plus 1/2 cup ghee - or -
coconut oil?

All this time I thought
coconut butter was just what the oil was
called when solidified.
Some recipes
call for almond flour or a combination of
coconut flour and some arrowroot powder, but the cookie we always have in the freezer uses almond
butter as a base and was created by Danielle Walker of Against all Grain blog and several cookbooks.
I learned that you can substitute
coconut oil in most recipes that
call for
butter or shortening, and that if you use it to replace
butter, you may want to add a little extra vanilla extract.
This recipe, or maybe we shouldn't even
call it a recipe as it is so little work, is just about layering and baking six ingredients; melted
butter, graham cracker crumbs, flaked or shredded
coconut, chocolate chips, chopped walnuts (or pecans), and a can of sweetened condensed milk (in that order).

Some brands
call it «creamed
coconut», some
call it «
coconut paste» but it's basically shredded
coconut meat blended into «
butter».
Traditional recipes
call for smothering the pumpkin seeds in
butter, but why go that route when there's
coconut oil?
My niece has stomach problems and is allergic to wheat, dairy and eggs so I tried to make her lemon poppyseed mini cakes and used gluten free flour,
coconut oil and egg replacer, (recipe
called for 2 1/4 cup flour, 1 1/3 cup
butter, 5 eggs) but when I mixed it up it was like paste and liquid y on top, put it in the pan and baked it, (350) and the oil and water separated and came to the surface, looked like I was deep frying, needless to say it came out like hardtack, what's wrong??
The Tropical Traditions website (www.freecoconutrecipes.com) has lots of recipes using
coconut butter - only they
call it «
coconut cream concentrate».
So any recipe that you find on this website that
calls for dried
coconut, you can use
coconut butter instead.
I know this recipe
calls for real
butter and flour, but I'm so tempted to make a gluten free,
coconut oil version of this - if I do, I will let you know for sure!
To celebrate this late, bone - warming fillip I pulled together silk - jacketed corn, a virgin packet of sweet white miso, some
coconut butter, a lime and couple of packs of tofu and
called it dinner.
I always make
coconut milk by whip sticking 2 Tbsp
coconut butter (also
called coconut cream) in 3/4 cup of warm water.

If you have a high - speed blender, like the Vitamix, you can use 1 cup of shredded unsweetened
coconut instead of the prepared
coconut butter called for in this recipe.
Add the dried fruit (raisins / soaked mulberries / goji berries) and any nut
butter that is
called for, along with the maple syrup and
coconut oil.
I was inspired to make some fresh homemade
coconut butter to have handy in the fridge when a recipe
called for it.
Hopefully you can find or order
coconut butter and give them another shot with the ingredients as
called for
Any recipe
calling for
butter, margarine, or any other oil can be substituted for
coconut oil.
Pam, I forgot to mention the original recipe
calls for
coconut oil or ghee instead of
butter and yes, gluten free oats if that's an issue.
The original fig bar recipe
calls for
coconut oil in the «dough» part instead of the almond
butter that I used in my adapted version.
Those who are new to a grain - free lifestyle will be happy to see gluten - free versions of several classics and fan favorites, like pancakes, waffles, cauliflower - crusted pizza (one of the few recipes in the book that
calls for dairy), creamy almond
butter pork pad thai, primal chili, and
coconut oil mayonnaise.
These adorable heart shaped candies are
called «fats bombs» because they're made out of peanut
butter,
coconut oil, cacao and a few other choice ingredients to create this well balanced treat.
Coconut butter might be a little bit confusing because different brands
call it different names.
