There are some many debt consolidation companies (also
called debt relief companies) that collect debts for third parties.
The FTC recently announced actions against a handful of these so -
called debt relief companies that promise to lower the student loan debt, charge an upfront fee, and do nothing in return.
But, if the consumer
calls the debt relief company in response to an internet ad, then the rules do apply.

Personally I like that definition since it gives consumer advocates a wide latitude to
call many acts and practices of
