Excuse my ignorance re the cane sugar, here in the UK our brown sugar states on the bag that it is
cane sugar so what is the difference between brown sugar and cane sugar?
I would agree agave probably wouldn't be the best although I personally can't really handle
cane sugar so I'd probably use more maple syrup or something.
My daughter is allergic to
cane sugar so I usually use honey.
I haven't used rapadura before but it seems like it would be similar to evaporated
cane sugar so you'll still need that molasses flavour.

It's made from organic
cane sugar and organic tapioca starch,
so it's a little better than regular powdered
sugar.
And store bought is usually to high in salt and uses
cane sugar,

So check the ingredient list not only for
sugar, but also for juice concentrate, nectar, fruit puree, fructose,
cane extract, sucrose, maltose, agave and honey — they're just different words for the sweet stuff.
Raw honey also is good for diabetics since unlike
cane sugar, it is a whole food mixed with vitamins and live probiotics and enzymes and has a low glycemic effect on blood
