I would guess maybe 6 cups
of canned sweet potatoes, enough to fill the casserole dish leaving plenty of room for the topping.

of canned sweet potatoes, sugar, butter, and brown sugar.
1 cup sweet potato puree (pumpkin would work too - this is usually easy to find around Fall time, just look
for canned sweet potato or pumpkin)
And FYI — if
your canned sweet potatoes are already sweetened you won't need much (if any) sugar added to the potatoes themselves.
Canned sweet potatoes will also work well in this recipe.

canned sweet potato will not be as sweet, but you can use equal parts of canned sweet potato to the homemade puree that the recipe calls for.

canned sweet potatoes, often mis - labeled as yams, for cans contain the very controversial Bisphenol A (BPA) which has been linked to cancer, birth defects, miscarriages, obesity, and insulin resistance (which can lead to Type II diabetes).
If you used
canned sweet potato or microwaved sweet potato that would alter the consistency.
