When I lift the
car on
jack stands and turn the driver's wheel right and spin it, I can not duplicate any metallic scraping.
Before you get started, put your
car on
jack stands and check for any leaks in your AC system (cracks in hoses, tubes that have worn out).
It is safer to
jack each corner of the
car one at a time and rest it on a
jack stand before doing the same to another corner.
Once the
jack collapsed while I was under the
car (luckily I had
jack stands in place).
I believe this is why many manufacturers recommend
jacking the
car up using the center
jacking point, then placing the
jack stands at the corners.
I've had
cars slip off jackstands using that method, and OP stated he wasn't able to place the
jack stands and
jack on one corner at the same time.
I want to place
jack stands on the welds on the side of the
car beneath the front and rear doors, but can not fit both the
jack and
stands there.
My personal philosophy is to use a cheap
car jack but expensive
jack stands.

Don't ever trust a
jack, if I have to get under the
car, I have 2
jack stands and test them before getting under (

jack stands, do it one corner at a time.

jack, be sure to safely secure the

About a month after I bought my
car, I stuck the
jack on the metal right next to the lift point so I could get the
jack stand under there, and bent the heck out of the metal down there.
Kicking the
car tire from underneath the
car (or doing anything that might cause it to shake) is IMHO a bad idea whether it's on a
jack or a
jack -
stand.
Raise the
car and secure it with
jack stands, climb under the
car with your socket, your sensor, your socket handle and possibly some penetrating oil.
The
jack so the
car can be lifted to work underneath, and the
stands for added safety.
The oil gets dirty immediately anyway so I wouldn't want to do anything that could be unsafe like raising all 4 wheels — just buy a good
jack and
stands and lower the
car to the ground or go with the pump if it bothers you.
Either
jack it up and rest it on
jack stands, or drive it up on wheel ramps, or park one side of the
car on a curb.
Frankly, it's annoying, but if someone can
jack up a
car and put it on
jack stands, they probably know what they're doing with regards to filling a transmission.
