I add flake salt to the finished top layer after glazing with maple syrup to create the final note, the one that gives balance and complements the natural
caramel sweetness of the date filling.

Initially the idea for these was more
of a salted

of just a subtle

date pieces.
I swapped in almond butter,
dates to make it a bit stiffer and add natural
caramel - y
sweetness, and coconut in place
of the oats, for a way more nutritious snack.
In fact, they're the perfect mix
of raw chocolate, slight
sweetness from the berries, rich
caramel sweetness from the
dates, and I love how the coconut gives them a light flavor and such a lovely texture.
