In collaboration with Columbia University's David Sulzer, Cuervo presented evidence of altered CMA in Parkinson's disease in 2004, and then in 2010 demonstrated that inefficient
cargo loading of proteins into lysosomes could be responsible for the pathogenic accumulation of proteins inside cells of Huntington's patients.
