There's no rule that says you must have a credit card to have good credit, and you certainly don't need to
carry a balance on a credit card once you get it.

Once you get a debit
card, you can repair your
credit by using it sparingly but regularly and making sure you make all payments
on time without
carrying any
balance.

carrying a large
balance on a
credit card, you can send more toward reducing your student loan
balances.
