carried on within Protestant theological circles, we may perhaps be permitted a brief excursus into the realm of Roman Catholic biblical scholarship, for Strauss's
book produced an immediate reaction from a Roman Catholic New Testament professor in which what has come to be, to the best of our knowledge, the standard Roman Catholic viewpoint, was developed.
I snagged way too many
review copies for my
carry -
on suitcase (seriously: I had to check
on the way home), but as we all know: Too many
books is a good problem to have.
One can
carry our critical
review on a literature or even films, movies, articles, reports,
books and journals.
Personally, I much prefer
on - line
book «browsing» to brick & mortar stores which
carry only a handful of titles by comparison (and then only those authors from the Big 5 stables) while providing only back - jacket
reviews.
I did pick up this first
book, but after that failed to
carry on, even though the first
book is good and Jo's
reviews fascinating.
I'm also hoping that there will be
review copies of the Spring
books at least
on the American Library Association Midwinter Exhibits floor — especially since I won't need to worry about what I
carry home with me.
The
reviews were few and those that were done made it clear the blogger had not read the
book (example: a comment
on how my
book was a fun shoot»em up when the premise of the story is my team can't
carry weapons).
How many
reviews a
book has
on Amazon is a key indicator of whether an independent bookstore or public library will want to
carry it also.
Reviews are meant as guides for others looking for good
books, not for authors looking for acclamation; keep calm and
carry on.
Any way, regardless — it took me the following to love my kindle — regularly running out of bookshelf space and having to offload novels to the charity shops — being able to read big
books on the train without having to
carry them — travelling around australia with no guide
books and no need to charge my battery, or worry about my kindle being stolen — its an investment, but not as much as a fancy tablet that would have needed charging every couple of days — being able to buy a
book and read it moments after reading a
review of it.
