In order to reach a diagnosis in these
cases, full - thickness biopsies obtained through an
exploratory surgery, (
exploratory laparotomy) or non-invasive tests such as an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) may be required.
In this
case, we may ask to just go in and do an
exploratory surgery.
In the majority of
cases,
exploratory surgery is required to obtain the appropriate diagnostic samples.
In some
cases,
exploratory abdominal
surgery will be done to examine the liver and gall bladder.
