He said 40 per
cent of households continued to lack broadband and the number of connections actually decreased in the last year.

Despite the increase in debt,
households continued to get richer in the third quarter as their net worth gained 2.2 per
cent on the back
of a strong stock market.
On the other side
of the
household balance sheet, the debt
of the
household sector has
continued to grow rapidly, increasing by 14 1/2 per
cent over the year to March.
Over the past year,
household credit has increased by around 20 per
cent, and with the value
of housing loan approvals
continuing to rise over recent months, there seems little prospect for a near - term slowing in the pace
of growth.
But the level
of household debt
continues to rise, hitting 171.1 per
cent of disposable income in the third quarter.
