cent of secondary schools making use of tablets in the classroom.

secondary schools, but not in academies or free
schools, which
make up 65 per
cent of all
secondary schools.
BESA's annual «Tablets and Connectivity» survey
of 636 UK
schools (334 primary, 302
secondary), which was carried out in May, reveals that teachers predict that in two years time tablets will
make up 37 per
cent of classroom computers, and that in 2020 they will
make up 56 per
cent.
Despite approximately 75 per
cent of teachers and the majority
of children using social media to communicate, 88 per
cent of primary
schools and 79 per
cent of secondary schools confirmed that they
made no use
of the tool in the classroom.
Research showed that 33 per
cent of primary and 49 per
cent of secondary schools say they
make some or extensive use eBooks on tablets.
However it is a shame that with the proven benefits
of e-books our research indicates that 58 per
cent of primary
schools and 17 per
cent of secondary schools say they
make no use
of eBooks.
The LGA is calling for 5 per
cent of this funding — # 90 million — to be used to
make it mandatory for every pupil in
secondary and alternative education provision, to have access to on - site
school counselling services.
The Department for Education (DfE) stated «those
secondary schools that fail to ensure 60 per
cent of pupils achieve five good GCSE grades and have a below average proportion
of pupils
making expected progress over three years, will be classed as coasting».
According to the unions, teachers
made up 6,463, or 43 per

of the total staff losses from
