The Mail on Sunday had reported that Labour and Conservative MPs wanted a 22 per
cent pay rise over two years.
The company signed off on a new workplace agreement that gives staff a 6 per
cent pay rise over three years, well short of the 15 per cent increase that unions were seeking.

But those moves will do little to alleviate public anger
over the
rise, which is well above the one per
cent pay rise being received by public sector workers.
The government currently faces a backbench rebellion
over its attempts to force MPs to accept a 1.9 per
cent pay rise, putting them on a par with public sector workers such as police and prison officers.
With further
rises in 2009 and 2010 this could allow MPs to claim a
pay rise of around ten per
cent over three years.
Public sector
pay rises will be capped to one for two years from 2011, while the 40 per
cent income tax threshold will be frozen the following year - hitting anyone earning
over # 43,000.
Productivity grew steadily
over the period studied:
rising cumulatively by 6.4 per
cent in all firms in the low -
pay sectors and by 15 per
cent in the large service firms.
