At only 10 EUR a jar (and often in
promotion so you can buy it even cheaper), it really is worth every
cent.
So far, we've covered the three basic price points for a price
promotion: free, 99
cents, and $ 2.99.
Pricing: The marketer in me resists 99
cents as the price point because how can you run a
promotion if your base price is

cents for every dollar I spend it's interesting.
BP fuel rewards normally offers drivers 10
cents off a gallon for every $ 100 spent on fuel at BP (full T&C s here)
so you need to weigh up the value you can get from that (or from any other gas
promotion for that matter) before deciding if the MileagePlus earnings are worth it to you.
2,000 points per stay isn't exactly generous — I value Hilton Honors points at around 0.4
cents each
so this
promotion is effectively offering a rebate of $ 8 per stay.
Outside of its frequent
promotions you can buy Hilton points at 1.0
cent each
so, with a 50 % discount that brings the cost / point down to 0.5
cents each.
The last
promotion at the beginning of the month offer miles for sale at 2.15
cents each
so straight away that should give you an idea of what this sale is like.
I value Avios at around 1
cent each (although I can definitely get more value out of them than that)
so, essentially, the
promotion is offering me a 2
cents / dollar rebate on all non-British Airways transactions and a 4
cents / dollar rebate on transactions with British Airways....
I value Carlson Gold points somewhere around 0.4
cents each
so, if you have the Premier Rewards Visa card, the
promotion would see you earning 20 points / dollar spent at Carlson properties which is essentially an 8 % rebate on your booking.
Hilton sells HHonors points, outside of its
promotions, at 1.0
cent each (as I really hope no one pays that for them)
so depending on what discount you were targeted for this is what you'll be paying per point:
Normally, Hilton Honors sell their points for 1 (US)
cent each,
so under the
promotion, this will come down to 0.5
cents each.
This is close to as cheap we ever see Choice Privileges Points being sold (when there a 50 % bonus available points cost ~ 0.733
cents each and points cost 0.786
cents each in the last
promotion)
so, from a numbers point of view, this looks promising.
I value AAdvantage Miles at around 1.2
cents each
so, naturally, I'm not about to say that you should rush to buy miles in this
promotion.
American offered AAdvantage miles at 1.8
cents each in December last year and again in April this year but, more importantly, the airline also offered AAdvantage miles as just 1.72
cents each in June...
so straight away you can see that this latest
promotion isn't exactly the airline's best offer.
If you purchased your full allocation during the Cyber Monday «Best offer of 2015»
promotion you would have purchased 125,000 miles + a bonus 75,000 miles at around 2
cents / mile
so you would only be allowed to purchase a further 25,000 miles during this
promotion (taking you to a total of 150,000 miles for the year).
Unusually for me I purchased AAdvantage Miles in the December
promotion (at 1.8
cents each) and I did
so because I knew I wanted to book a lot of truly premium seats before the devaluation on 22 March.
To me a Starpoint is worth somewhere around 1.8
cents so, in this
promotion, the double Starpoints offer gives guests an effective rebate of 3.6 % while the triple Starpoints offer gives a much more pleasing effective rebate of 7.2 %.
United Airlines has become much more generous this year in selling miles, providing both more lucrative

I value Club Carlson points at around 0.04
cents each
so straight away this
promotion has got my attention.
So, when estimating the value of Nordstrom's 36X
promotion, should you use the possible 3.33
cent redemption value or the 1.29
cent fair trading price?
