After graduating in 2014 from the Maryland Institute
College of Art, she opened Platform Arts
Center, a studio building, and Platform Gallery, a contemporary art gallery that focused on showing
local and regional artists.
The four main goals are to: (1) develop a 13 - acre block in the
center of the city as a «Green Arts District» beyond the LEED Platinum level for neighborhood development and use that development to catalyze a prosperous city - wide economy; (2) develop a post-carbon energy system for both the city and the
College based on efficiency and renewable energy; (3) develop a 20,000 acre greenbelt around the city to revive
local agriculture and forestry; and (4) create the most exciting educational experiment in the U.S. by using the entire effort as an educational laboratory for all students in the Oberlin area.
Given the geology — and the intellectual geography —
of upstate New York, it was no surprise that Ithaca became a
center of the debate — and that the swirling debate began to interest faculty at some
of the
local institutions: Ithaca
College's Sandra Steingraber, for instance, and some
of Cornell's best scientists.
