The Cub came equipped with an automatic
centrifugal clutch mechanism, which enabled the rider to shift gears without operating the clutch while riding.
An automatic
centrifugal clutch maintains constant belt tension for reduced belt wear and uses a sprag clutch for all - wheel downhill engine braking in 4WD mode and reverse.
It produces 390bhp at 6750rpm and 391 lb ft at 4200rpm and drives through a sequential paddle - operated Hewland «box with
a centrifugal clutch that means pulling away is simply a case of slowly building up the revs... The R1R weighs 670 kg so performance with the engine running full boost (you can turn it down to around 330bhp) is suitably nutty.
I didn't venture far but the combination of little steering lock, a very firm ride, the sheer noise of the engine and «box and
the centrifugal clutch's quite abrupt take - up made it feel less resolved than, say, an Atom 3.5 R or Radical RXC Turbo would do.

The very fancy ones use a turbocharger instead, but it is crankshaft - driven with an overrunning
clutch (with a whooper of a gear - up)- functioning as a
centrifugal blower until the engine develops enough power for the turbine to spin up.
Based on this data, BorgWarner's patented lightweight
centrifugal electro - hydraulic (CEH) actuator distributes the required torque between the two axles by compressing the
clutch pack, allowing the AWD transfer case to deliver pre-emptive and precise linear
clutch actuation for immediate response, enhanced vehicle traction and stability control.
The solenoids allow direct control of the hydraulic pressure applied to the shifting
clutches, along with
centrifugal fluid pressure canceling mechanisms, enabling finer control than conventional
clutch - control systems.
