Toxic chemicals are accumulating in the ecosystems of the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau, researchers warn in the first comprehensive study to assess levels of
certain organic pollutants in that part of the world.
WHO is continuing these studies in collaboration with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), in the context of the «Stockholm Convention», an international agreement to reduce emissions of
certain persistent
organic pollutants (POPs), including dioxins.
