I am not sure how the physics of that works, however, but
it certainly absorbs heat, even at low angles of incidence.
This, though Wells
certainly could not have dreamed it, is actually an important part of the mechanism of the greenhouse effect: when greenhouse gases increase, they shorten the average length that radiant
heat can travel through the atmosphere before being
absorbed.
