We educators always face
the challenge of helping our students approach complex skills and ideas.
Since 1998, we have published many books and videos with the same two goals in mind: (1) to persuade educators that the most promising strategy for meeting
the challenge of helping all students learn at high levels is to develop their capacity to function as a professional learning community and (2) to offer specific strategies and structures to help them transform their own schools and districts into PLCs.
As teachers, we face the unique
challenges of helping each student, in each unique classroom combination, at the same time that we try to advance our own professional learning, support colleagues, address school and district goals, master the curriculum and pedagogy we began learning in the past, and adapt to the newer, better, curriculum and pedagogy that just came along.
Although ever - increasing external demands to raise student achievement amidst budget cuts are raising stress levels for many educators, school leaders, like company CEOs, may be able to unleash creativity and collective problem - solving by reframing threats as challenges — for example, by converting the fear of school failure into
the challenge of helping students succeed.

students in connecting their own experiences and histories to broader situations that are local, regional, national and global in scope.
A growing body
of evidence suggests that providing
students with simplified information, reminders, and access to assistance during critical junctures, like FAFSA completion and the summer after high school, can
help students navigate
challenging bottlenecks and transition into collegiate environments where they've already shown the potential for academic success.
