There is major plan view
chamfering so the car is aerodynamically efficient, but the hood centerline is as long as possible, enhanced by the painted transverse piece below.

I had drum brakes on my Land Rover (8», 10» single and twin leading shoe), and what you can try is to
chamfer the leading edge of the friction material - only needs 1/8» depth 60 degrees -
so that the shoe does not «grab» on first contact.
The
chamfered edges are cut
so light bends as it passes through the material, creating a rainbow of colours across the surfaces.
But the One is actually incredibly comfortable to hold: the slightly curved back nestles into your palm, and the
chamfered edges slope from back to front,
so your hands curl naturally around its sides.
The same 7.9 mm thickness can be seen across both phones and
so is the metallic body design that features
chamfered edges.
The back of the 10 features the same aluminum body HTC pioneered years ago, only now with tapered edges the company describes as «
chamfered,» making the phone slightly easier to hold, though it still slid out of my hand a number of times, perhaps more
so that the M9.
All eyes are on the HTC One M10 this year, and
so far, all we've seen is the rumored rear metal chassis and an official
chamfered edge teaser.
The
chamfers in the aluminium (the iPhone 4 range used steel, but that proved too heavy,
so aluminium was used for the 5 onwards) are now «matt» rather than polished — it's not a big difference cosmetically, but should help prevent small «dings» (i.e. from drops and knocks) being too obvious!
So you're looking at a relatively slim metal smartphone with
chamfered edges that give it a slightly industrial feel — it's noticeably different to the soft, curved iPhone, and arguably a little easier to hold too.
For example, the
chamfered edges around the handset are now matte instead of polished,
so they blend in better with the aluminum sides.
If you look close you'll see ever -
so - subtle shiny
chamfers along the edge of the screen, fingerprint sensor, and camera protrusion around back.
The dark colour really highlights the
chamfered metal edge,
so it stands out a lot more than the «champagne» or «pearl» colour options.
It's also ever
so slightly more rounded than the smaller model, but besides that many of the design traits carry over — subtly curved metal back, brushed aluminum and
chamfers that help break things up visually while helping with grip.
You could argue that straight on it looks far too much like either an iPhone 5, with its
chamfered edges, or a BlackBerry Z10 front on, and you'd have a good point as this phone doesn't reinvent the rectangle - with - rounded - edges formula that we're
so used to, but in the hand the curved back brings a whole new dimension to things.
The phone is made from all metal as it uses a full metal unibody design, complete with
chamfered edges on both the front and back, and a glass display that is slightly curved (very subtly) at the edges all the way around
so the glass of the display kind of melts into the edges of the body.
