At this early stage it's tough to suss out exactly what
the chances of a film like Sicario making a big splash in the Oscar race are, but Supporting Actor (for Del Toro), Cinematography, and Sound seem like its safest bets, with nods for Actress, Director, Picture, and Score potentially in the cards — assuming the Academy doesn't brush this off as «too challenging», that is.

of Julianne Moore and Still Alice gives breath to a possible Kristen Stewart nomination and Jessica Chastain's wobbly Best Actress possibilities could be paving a way for a possible déjà vu in which her roles in less seen
films merely boost her
chances for a nomination for a big blockbuster
like she did for The Help, this time for Interstellar.
But even yesterday it looked
like a long shot, and despite Carrey's apparent love
of Matthew Vaughn's
film, The Hollywood Reporter is saying that their sources think the
chances of Carrey taking the role
of Colonel Stars (a mobster - turned - fundamentalist - Christian - turned - superhero - recruiter) are slim — presumably the smaller budget
of the sequel to the underperfoming original can't quite afford him.
But they haven't had quite the same luck with sequels, as evidenced by recent
films like «Cloudy with a
Chance of Meatballs 2» and «22 Jump Street.»

If you are a fan
of Will Sasso, then there is no way you won't
like this
film as he gets a
chance to shine in the starring role.

Sure, Bryan Cranston and Helen Mirren are both nominated for Trumbo and the
film has a Cast nomination as well but Cranston, despite the legion
of TV voters who will probably cast a few his way, has very little
chance against DiCaprio and non-Oscar nominee Mirren doesn't feel
like a formidable candidate against Oscar nominees Alicia Vikander or Kate Winslet.

One point
of difference, though, is more than incidental: In Vertigo, Scotty,
like Oedipus, thought he was acting freely throughout the «case,» only to find he was controlled by forces outside himself; in the second half
of the
film, he gets a second
chance, and even when acting truly freely, ends up causing the same result, with greater and more tragic finality than before.
But it has connections to his other
films, too,
like the way Linklater can't help but send Jake into a miniature version
of a Before Sunrise situation with Beverly (Zoey Deutch), a theater girl he meets by

We no longer have 10 slots to back - fill, so if the Academy ends up with six or seven nominees in the lead category after voting, a number

of the
films run - time.

of the Dead and Hot Fuzz — in this makeshift series, then there's a very good
chance that you'll enjoy at least part
of this new
film, as well.

Though it's been offered that the lack
of any actual conflict is a product
of the picture's miniscule budget, it feels a lot more
like an unwillingness to take a

of crisis, despite the

of a reporter who, after being fired from the Times for fudging the truth in a major story, sees a
chance at redemption — and riches — in landing a true - crime scoop.
Being a low - budget
film from Canada without an easily marketable premise, «Still Mine» is only gradually opening up in these parts in a few cities and its
chances of expanding any wider are almost totally dependent on generating a positive word
of mouth reaction amongst audiences that will hopefully lead to more people deciding to give it a
chance instead
of blowing their money on the
likes of «Grown Ups 2.»
Unlike the last few years, there are now at least three
films that have a very good
chance of winning the Best Picture trophy at the Oscar ceremony in February, and it looks
like we'll be witness to a pretty intense fight to the finish line.
For the most part, the movies still suck, but following the box office success
of films like «Taken» and «Ride Along,» the studios seem more willing to give higher - profile titles a
chance to perform against the weaker competition.

of those great, rare
chances for an older female lead
like Frances McDormand to shine - and shine she does!

of Waltz being the standout
of the
film would most likely be to increase the
chances that Adams joins the
likes of Glenn Close with half a dozen failed tries for Oscar.
I'm into all types
of movies — I'm trying to make a horror
film (next), and there's some indie movies that'd cost about $ 5 to make that I'd
like to do — but this was a
chance for someone to write a check for a big - budget comedy, and to be able to do something as balls - out as this one... y ’ know, I'm gonna take advantage

Yes, it's hard to shallow that this is not just another «make a movie to sell toys»
film, but the directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (best known for Cloudy with a
Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street) really have a lot
of fun with the concept and there's a very careful attention to detail that makes the
film feel
like it's truly made out
of LEGO blocks (despite being CGI).
