The researchers suspect warmer temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean amplify warming at high elevations in the Arctic by
changing air circulation patterns.
Furthermore,
it changes the air circulation patterns throughout the Amazon area during the dry season.
Alternatively, the loss of ice may have
changed air circulation patterns above the Arctic in ways that have similarly «locked in» the change.
That would
change the air circulation patterns resulting in the observed wind effect on the ocean surfaces but would itself have been caused by changes in the rate of release or absorption of energy from the ocean surfaces.

«The Greenland ice sheet as a whole is shrinking, melting and reducing in size as the result of globally
changing air and ocean temperatures and associated
changes in
circulation patterns in both the ocean and atmosphere,» Muenchow said.
[Response: Well, something like a
circulation changed forced by the NAO
pattern (which may in turn be affected by greenhouse gases) might cause an increase in European
air temperatures, which in turn would allow low level moisture to increase if there is enough moisture supply, which would then constitute an amplification of a signal driven remotely.
According to their modeling studies, the difference in the amount of incoming solar radiation, in this case, primarily in the ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths, during the minima and maxima of the 11 - yr solar cycle are large enough to produce a characteristic
change in the winter
circulation pattern of the atmosphere over North America... When the NAO is in its negative phase, more cold
air can seep south from the Arctic and impact the lower latitudes of Europe and the eastern U.S., which helps spin up winter storm systems.
The
air responds to a
change in it's own resistor efficiency by
changing it's own
circulation patterns to again meet the requirement that the surface
air temperature and the sea surface temperature be the same on average globally.
We would not expect to see any effect on weather or climate other than that the
air circulation patterns would be in very slightly differing (but still ever
changing) positions than if we had made no difference at all.
In this configuration the
air will stabalise into a
circulation pattern which can be measured for flow velocity and represents the energy flows from hot to cold via
air thermal
changes.
Even modest
changes in
circulation patterns could significantly alter
air temperature trends
