Comprehensive
character education efforts can build an atmosphere where students feel included, connected, and part of their school community; where both students and teachers step up to report bullying and stand up for victims; where teachers check in with vulnerable or troubled students instead of hoping, «she's fine» or «he's too much trouble»; and where parents are involved and engaged.

efforts to help students become good people go beyond simply teaching them what it means to be good.
Prosocial
education is a term that more and more are using to refer to the array of overlapping instructional
efforts that promote so - called «non-cognitive» aspects of learning:
character education, social emotional learning, mental health promotion
efforts and more.
As a result, the
Character Education Partnership and CASEL's theory of change are grounded in an understanding that prosocial instructional
efforts need to be integrated with school wide / school climate improvement
efforts.

efforts to improve our
education system will help students learn and grow, we believe that building
character, integrity, positive attitude, and life skills are key components in a youth person's ability to succeed.

In No Small Change: Targeting Money Toward Student Performance, researchers analyze more than 100 variables before they grade states from A to F on four major categories: the rigor and clarity of the state's standards in core subjects; its
efforts to improve teacher quality; its school climate as measured by absenteeism, school safety, parental involvement,
character education, and other variables; and the extent to which it provides resources equitably.
