The strong reflection seen on Mercury is too large to be caused by a momentary «glint» off a crater wall,
and when studied in more detail, shares the
characteristics of reflections from the
water ice seen on Mars
and the icy moons of Jupiter.
Richard
and the company's co-president Elaine (Theron), a relentless climber with
ice -
water for blood who not only has no compunction about flaunting her secondary sexual
characteristics for career gain but may in fact have no idea what the word «compunction» even means, join Harold for one of his periodic jaunts to Mexico, where the company has a plant.
Geoengineering proposals fall into at least three broad categories: 1) managing atmospheric greenhouse gases (e.g., ocean fertilization
and atmospheric carbon capture
and sequestration), 2) cooling the Earth by reflecting sunlight (e.g., putting reflective particles into the atmosphere, putting mirrors in space to reflect the sun's energy, increasing surface reflectivity
and altering the amount or
characteristics of clouds),
and 3) moderating specific impacts of global warming (e.g., efforts to limit sea level rise by increasing land storage of
water, protecting
ice sheets or artificially enhancing mountain glaciers).
Their findings, published in Society's journal Weather, show for the first time that asperitas is a low level cloud made of
water — not
ice as previously suggested — which develops its
characteristic form from atmospheric disturbances, such as weather fronts
and storms.
Based on the understanding of both the physical processes that control key climate feedbacks (see Section 8.6.3),
and also the origin of inter-model differences in the simulation of feedbacks (see Section 8.6.2), the following climate
characteristics appear to be particularly important: (i) for the
water vapour
and lapse rate feedbacks, the response of upper - tropospheric RH
and lapse rate to interannual or decadal changes in climate; (ii) for cloud feedbacks, the response of boundary - layer clouds
and anvil clouds to a change in surface or atmospheric conditions
and the change in cloud radiative properties associated with a change in extratropical synoptic weather systems; (iii) for snow albedo feedbacks, the relationship between surface air temperature
and snow melt over northern land areas during spring
and (iv) for sea
ice feedbacks, the simulation of sea
ice thickness.
