It'll all be said and done on Nintendo's official Twitch channel when it hits, so if you have a block of time, hunker down and watch some Nintendo
characters beat each other up.

A good example: I've been playing a videogame of late with a combination Greek / fantasy pantheon in which the player -
character is a very faithful servant of a particular goddess, knows
other gods exist (because killing them /
beating them
up is the main plot of the game), and winds
up with an ally who can clearly see that the gods exist but only cares about following himself — so there's a mix there of misotheism with a few of the gods (they are there, but they're evil), faithful worship (serving a good goddess), and nay theism («You gods are selfish jerks, I'm going my own way!»).
Pretty much every episode has absolutely ridiculous things happening first, the way Hood becomes Sheriff; then the ability of the dragqueen
character to do whatever he wants with his laptop, including opening blast doors in a museum; Hood's asinine interpretation of laws, like punching criminals in front of
other cops and letting prisoners go; Hood deciding to and succeeding in
beating up a biker gang by himself, etc..
A thin, barely - visible tightrope hovers over two different yet equally - treacherous perils: on one side, you risk missing the point of the original and creating a follow -
up whose
character, plot, and theme barely resembles its source; on the
other, you simply retread the familiar
beats of the previous work, applying a fresh coat of paint to the old structure.
Many of our greatest action movies are about ordinary
characters doing extraordinary things, but off -
beat casting choices can add a whole
other meta - dimension to this idea, showing us actors we'd previously not thought of as action heroes stepping
up to play big parts.
And that's pretty much exactly what PTE XL is: a Super Smash Bros replica, but instead of Link and his fellow Nintendions (it's a word, I swear)
beating each
other up you've got a fairly wide selection of Cartoon Network
characters, both old and new.
Beating up on
other Nintendo
characters as Link was immensely satisfying.
It would have been disappointing if that was the only gameplay, but not only are new
characters unlocked for every difficulty
beaten, but there are a decent amount of
other modes such as the Endless mode with randomly generated levels and a «not to be taken seriously» mode where players fight
up to three bosses simultaneously.
There may only be 6
characters available at present, but unlike many
other beat em
ups that feature several
characters with a few just being slight variants of
others, the ones in Killer Instinct are quite distinctive from each
other with their own very unique play styles.
As for the actual plot it barely makes any sense, and
characters drop into fights for paper - thin reasons, although it's not quite as bad as MK9 where people would
beat each
other up for breathing the wrong way.
Beating the
other Factions earns rewards, and special events pop
up from time to time, including Invasions where you need to fight a specially powered
up boss
character.
Anyway, the guys in the band are pretty avid gamers and love to get their hands dirty
beating each
other up with virtual
characters.
The
other playable
character on the
other hand will be Tingle, because who doesn't want to play as Tingle and
beat up enemies as him.
Story
beats are often told through still manga frames, with
other comic panels pulled in to show close -
ups of
character faces as they emote, heavily, through the dialogue.
While some mods might raise some flags on weirdness,
others double the fun, like the Streets of Rage 2: Puyo Wars by Candra Software's Workshop (originally done by Lorenzo The Comic), which enables your favorite
