«New Works» opens on the heels of a year in which Bradford received acclaim for «Tomorrow Is Another
Day,» his searing
exhibition for the US Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, which will travel to The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), and unveiled «Pickett's
Charge,» a monumental commission for the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., inspired by artist Paul Philippoteaux's nineteenth - century cyclorama in Gettysburg National Military Park, Pennsylvania.
Even museums that have maintained the unfortunate practice of
charging admission have free

exhibitions are still more affordable that what Wu - Tang wants to

The
exhibition follows a spate of international activities: «Tomorrow is Another
Day,» Bradford's solo
exhibition in the U.S. pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale; «Pickett's
Charge,» the 360 - degree installation composed of eight paintings that opened at the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum in November; and in recent weeks, the installation of a 32 - panel, site - specific work at the new U.S. embassy in London that incorporates the entire U.S. Constitution.

exhibition catalogs, «Tomorrow is Another
Day» and «Pickett's
Charge,» and a forthcoming May 2018 title, explore the work of Mark Bradford.

But even though
Day for Night has its share of politically
charged works — with American artists like Nari Ward, Dash Snow, Matthew
Day Jackson, Jamal Cyrus, Robert A. Pruitt, and Dawolu Jabari Anderson offering overt criticism of nationalism, the war on terror, manifest destiny, and racism — a general preoccupation with art history undermines the
exhibition's transgressive potential, rendering it a series of academic exercises.

Charged Line» will be a major new survey
exhibition exploring how artists have worked with neon, from the 1960s to the present
day.
