energy CERN whereby all the advanced nations come together in an Apollo
type mission to create new / more efficient /
cheaper forms
of renewable
energy within 10 years.
Given mature distribution technology and infrastructure for storage and transportation
of both those
energy storage mediums, investment in such power generating technology, arguably the
cheapest high - efficiency
type available, offers the lowest probability
of near - term (or any) sunk costs.
The question is if this linear increase will be maintained over the next 50 - 100 years or will flatten when industrialisation reaches maturity in developing countries and / or new
types of non-fossil production
of cheap energy will emerge.
Indeed, Ritchie and colleagues» method revealed that RCP8.5 is mostly depicting a world in which coal remains the
cheapest form
of energy and outcompetes other
types of energy generation.
I don't endorse bio-fuels, however, there may be some geographical areas that can grow only certain
types of crops such as natural grasses that don't need a lot
of water, fertilizer, etc. to grow, (e.g. switchgrass) that maybe someday could provide a
cheap and environmentally friendly alternative
energy source.
