Promoting a respectful school environment, encouraging participation, and establishing disciplinary structure may
help children from military families improve academic performance, a report suggests.
The main goals of «The Military Child Initiative» are to raise awareness of these and other problems encountered
by children from a military family, and to adapt research - based practical approaches to the school environment so that all students may thrive.
Through a contract with Cambium Learning Group, the Partnership Program has developed 16 Special Education training modules available to school districts that
serve children from military families.
Imagine Andrews Public Charter School has formed a partnership with Lynne Michael Blum, PhD, a leading clinical psychologist and an adjunct faculty member at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, to conduct a series of workshops and training sessions designed to help Imagine Andrews teachers and administrators improve the way they meet the needs
of children from military families.
At the same time that DoDEA is expanding data collection on its graduates, there is strong bipartisan support for an amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act that would require states and school districts to report the academic achievements of
children from military families.
