chosen by the borough's party organizations can still get on the ballot by filing new petitions within 12 days of Paterson's announcement, which gives them an Aug. 18 deadline.

While Savo Brothers claimed the names
chosen by the borough president were «an abuse of [his] discretion,» according to court documents, Minardo ruled Thursday that «it is within Oddo's discretion to decide if the street names of the residents of the Borough of Staten Island should reflect greed, a Lazy Bird or a fallen hero.»

The board is made up of 10 commissioners, two from each of the five
boroughs,
chosen by the Democratic and Republican parties.
Pirozzolo, who lives on Staten Island and was president of the
borough's community education council (largely parent advisory groups organized through a process run
by the city Department of Education), said parents should be able to
choose between district and charter schools, and that both have faults.
The council's commissioners will be
chosen by the council speaker, public advocate, comptroller,
borough presidents and de Blasio.
By law, the charter school will be open to students from anywhere in the city's five
boroughs, which means a lottery to
choose the incoming classes from a broader pool of applicants.
