chronic stomatitis in cats.

The mechanisms by which low - level laser therapy (LLLT) decreases pain include release of endogenous opioids, changes in conduction latencies of nerves, increased cellular metabolism, increased circulation, promotion of neovascularization, decreased fibrosis formation, and reduction of inflammation.30 Feline conditions that respond well to LLLT include osteoarthritis, degenerative lumbosacral stenosis, fractures,
chronic wounds, and
stomatitis.31 Most cats tolerate LLLT well, as it is not painful and can be delivered in a relatively short time (FIGURE 2).31
Stomatitis is the
chronic inflammation and ulceration of the soft tissues of the mouth.
Inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) and mouth (
stomatitis) and
chronic or recurrent infections of the skin, eyes, urinary bladder, and upper respiratory tract are often present.
Infectious bacteria, such as those responsible for bad breath, had overstimulated his immune system, provoking a syndrome known as
Chronic Ulcerative Paradental
Stomatitis or CUPS.
Chronic gingivitis and
stomatitis can cause severe pain.
Cats are prone to
chronic diseases of the mouth including gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and
stomatitis (inflammation of the oral mucous membranes, usually the back of the mouth).
But, because
stomatitis is such a
chronic painful disease, and there is no good effective long term treatment, we will often do a full mouth extraction (all 30 teeth) to try and eliminate the
stomatitis.
Stomatitis means inflammation of the mouth and when we talk about it in cats, we are referring to a syndrome that causes extensive
chronic inflammatory disease.
Cats can suffer from a condition known as lymphocytic plasmacytic gingivo -
stomatitis complex (LPGC) or
chronic gingivo -
stomatitis.
In severe or
chronic cases of
stomatitis, removal of numerous back teeth reduces the chance of contact between oral tissue and bacteria, reducing the symptoms.
Winnie now has a condition known as
stomatitis,
chronic inflammation of the mouth, which has been aggravated by the stress of sudden loss and change.
