Have you ever wondered why
your church does certain things a certain way, while the church across town does everything so different?
Churches do certain things and these things are what makes them a church.
Not exact matches
If you have made the «commitment» (and no we don't sign a contract or attendance log or anything crazy like that) to be a
church member,
certain things SHOULD be expected of you.
Just because Christ is shown
doing or being
certain things for the
church in the Ephesians 5:21 - 33 text,
does not mean that husbands are to
do or be each of those same
things for their wives.
At the other extreme are those who advocate for saying the sinner's prayer, subscribing to a long list of beliefs / interpretations of Scripture, living
certain ways and
doing certain things (such as attending
church so many times a week).
Interesting that we get caught up in
certain things but don't share his zest for removing corruption from the
Church.
The
church — every gathering of the
church, everywhere, under every form — remembers that on a
certain night its Founder said and
did certain definite
things, briefly reported: that on the same night he fell into the hands of his enemies; and that he suffered a violent death (for the broken body and the shed blood can mean nothing else).
While I will not defend the
church in anyway, I
do believe that we are being unreasonable to expect this man's attitudes on
certain things to change.
I guess a
church is a body of people and this king of
thing can happen whenever in company and the only
certain way of ensuring it doesn't is to avoid people entirely.
Although «close» and «personal» were never really defined (and strangely subjective), one
thing was clear: In order to have a close relationship with Jesus, I needed to
do certain things that made God smile —
things like praying, reading the Bible and regularly attending
church.
Well, for one
thing Romney isn't in any
church leadership role currently, so basically he is just like anyone else who is of a
certain faith who also happens to be running for office, so how
does someone in that situation run for office when it comes to the idea of separation of
church and state?
I am reluctant to have people over because I don't want my home to be judged, which is why I don't mind having over the high school girls from
church all of the time — high school girls are suprsingly non-judgemental about
certain things;)
