So, when you're
smoking directly, you're getting the carbon monoxide and all that junk in the
cigarette smoke and but passive
smoking is also an issue because that's also been associated with low birth weight.
The effects of secondhand
smoke can often be as bad as
smoking a
cigarette directly.
This is because carbon monoxide, nicotine and other toxic chemicals from
cigarettes cross the placenta and go
directly into the baby's blood stream, so in reality, your baby
smokes with you.
And it goes without saying that
cigarettes are bad for everyone, but particularly dangerous for those with asthma — either
directly or via secondhand
smoke.
For me, some of those things include: not wearing pants (practically ever),
smoking cigarettes out the window and drinking milk
directly from the carton.
But more and more, the government is stepping in to cajole us to adopt certain behaviors and actions it thinks we should, even though these actions (whether it's not wearing a seatbelt or
smoking cigarettes) don't
directly affect anyone else.
