To facilitate this consideration of how findings from this study meet the goals of
civic education as elucidated by the Civic Mission of Schools, the Framework for 21st Century Learning, and ISTE NETS - S (2007), I organized the work of these organizations around five aspects of digital citizenship.

I think that we need to build into our
civic education ways to use the media effectively so that people do feel they are using it in ways that can achieve their goals,

I think this commitment is represented well by HGSE faculty members, including some hired during my deanship, for example: Nancy Hill with her work on parenting and family socialization practices across ethnic, socio - economic, and neighborhood contexts; Meira Levinson with her work on
civic and multicultural
education; Natasha Warikoo with her work on race, immigration, inequality, and culture
as they relate to
education; and Hiro Yoshikawa with his work on the development of young children in immigrant families.

The
civics and history lessons required to understand the federal government's role in
education are of course deeply intertwined and begin,
as with so many things American, with the Constitution.
After decades of decline,
civics education may be staging a comeback
as teachers help their students make sense of a heated political climate.
Haidt's essay and Stenner's eye - opening work offer a compelling rationale for a
civic education renaissance
as a means to cultivate in our children a sense of attachment to the nation and its
