Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a horror video game that many think of when any discussion on critically acclaimed,
classic horror games takes place.

Lauded for its largely unique contribution to the
horror game genre, it eschews jumpscares for mounting tension and creative
takes on
classic horror tropes.
I'm thinking
classic House of the Dead though, with frights and
horrors aplenty; whilst I loved House of the Dead: Overkill and its «B - movie» vibe, I'd rather have the «incredibly cheesy but
takes itself seriously» feel of the original
games.
We've seen the
classic RPG return to the platform in half a dozen forms, the 4X strategy
game find fresh new expression, and simulation - driven survival
horror take centre stage.
Detention is fairly short,
taking about four hours or so to complete, but those four hours are wrapped up in a horrific atmosphere and fantastic puzzle - solving gameplay that should delight fans of

horror adventure
games.

I've been a huge Resident Evil fan for years, and despite being slightly disappointed with some of the more recent titles in the series, Resident Evil 7 was a true return to form that somehow managed to completely evolve how the
game played whilst also
taking it back to its
classic survival
horror roots.
It might not be the modern FPS
classic that is 2016's DOOM, but DOOM 3 is still a fantastic
game that tried to
take the franchise in a survival
horror direction and mostly succeeded.
