Thinking back to the first year at
school for one of my own, when talking to her
classroom teacher we could have been describing two different children such were the extremes in my daughter's
behaviour.
Photography is no longer reserved for the
school prospectus or website - many teachers are using it to boost creativity in the
classroom, help with
behaviour and to engage gifted and talented students.
However the point is taken that opportunities to reinforce teachers expectations both in an out of the

Finally, a group of studies concerned social relationships in and around the
classrooms, expressed for instance in bullying versus victimization of bullying, 35 antisocial vs prosocial

Executive function skills also have been successfully targeted through
school - based curriculum in preschool26 and Head Start
classrooms.4, 34 Experimental evidence suggests early childhood
classrooms, like Head Start, can successfully build executive function skills by providing more self - regulatory support in a
classroom (e.g., implementing clear rules and routines, redirecting or rewarding children's
behaviour).34 Increasing attention to executive function skills in early childhood programs may reduce the achievement gap that is apparent before
school begins and persists throughout the

The study examined the
behaviour of 217 pupils in 22 infant classes at 11 Limerick
schools, some of whose staff had undertaken a teacher
classroom management (TCM) programme.
In a randomized trial with 246 children in 20 Head Start
classrooms, children exposed to the PATHS program had higher emotion knowledge skills and were rated as more socially competent and less socially withdrawn at the end of the
school year.26 When PATHS was implemented along with a language and literacy curriculum in a separate study in 44 Head Start
classrooms, significant reductions in children's aggressive
behaviour were also observed.27
Children who have disorganized attachment with their primary attachment figure have been shown to be vulnerable to stress, have problems with regulation and control of negative emotions, and display oppositional, hostile - aggressive
behaviours, and coercive styles of interaction.2, 3 They may exhibit low self - esteem, internalizing and externalizing problems in the early
school years, poor peer interactions, unusual or bizarre
behaviour in the
classroom, high teacher ratings of dissociative
behaviour and internalizing symptoms in middle childhood, high levels of teacher - rated social and behavioural difficulties in class, low mathematics attainment, and impaired formal operational skills.3 They may show high levels of overall psychopathology at 17 years.3 Disorganized attachment with a primary attachment figure is over-represented in groups of children with clinical problems and those who are victims of maltreatment.1, 2,3 A majority of children with early disorganized attachment with their primary attachment figure during infancy go on to develop significant social and emotional maladjustment and psychopathology.3, 4 Thus, an attachment - based intervention should focus on preventing and / or reducing disorganized attachment.
