clean cages and throwing them out between pets is often a very effective way to prevent transmission between
cats in
cages or confined spaces.
Studies have shown that when healthy
cats were placed in banks of
cages in the same room a mere 4 feet from
cats with panleukopenia, commonly known as feline distemper, the disease was spread to the healthy
cats if no
cleaning regulations were in place.
If you don't have a large
cage, place a
clean empty litter tray in the back of the
cage with a towel in it for the
cat to rest in.
In order for you to safely open the
cage door and
clean up, the
cat must be inside the carrier.
