For her second solo exhibition in the gallery, and in Belgium, Louise Bourgeois has made a selection of recent sculptures in
fabric, screen prints on vintage
cloth and a completely new series of
wall hangings, entitled «The Woven Drawings».
She steeps porous open - grained
cloth in paints or dyes, and also paints through
fabric against the
wall — allowing pigment to penetrate and mark the surface beneath.
The
fabric that makes up the body of the
wall is shade
cloth.
However, in an echo of the yellow
fabric seen on the gallery's
wall, it is covered with a measure of blue
cloth woven by Benedictine nuns, whose labors normally include the making of church paraments and priestly vestments.
Patterned and solid navy blue
fabrics combine to create a charming cornice treatment that brings the look of crown molding to the windowed
wall; lilac grass
cloth creates a striking striped effect across the ceiling.
Now, I'm back rediscovering green grass
cloth, emerald - glazed
walls and old - fashioned chintz
fabric.
