Just
look at the absurd situation (my view) as Australia enacts modest carbon restrictions at home while
exporting vast quantities of carbon - rich
coal to the world's Asian manufacturing hub to be burned.
Since Australia is reliant upon
coal primarily for energy and for
exports, it's pretty obvious who
looks to lose - out if the climate scientists persuade the Australian Public about the scientific facts.
Everywhere you
look, people are shutting down fracking wells, stopping
coal export facilities, and challenging new pipelines.
Peabody's strategy has been to seek an involvement in
coal projects in Mongolia with the aim of
exporting to the Chinese market, expand its Australian operations, enter the Indonesian market and
look to expand
exports from its Powder River Basin mines in the U.S. to supply the Pacific market.
It is also
looking at building a large
coal export facility in Oregon.
The second passed which called for a programmatic environmental impact statement to be conducted to study the potential impacts of building
coal -
exporting terminals throughout the Pacific Northwest, rather than one project - specific study
looking at the Gateway Pacific Terminal project.
Neither gave interviews during the tour, but some speculated that the trip was an indication that the two were
looking to invest in the
coal mining project, including
coal exports to Asia.
The company is also
looking into
exporting coal from ports located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
Clean Energy Asia and many others are even
looking at solar PV as a potential
export for Mongolia, which already sees about a third of its economy comprised of natural resource
exports such as
coal, copper, and gold.

export very «dirty»
