coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia) in the West, a place of many storied oaks.

Coast live oak is an evergreen oak that can live up to 250 years and thrives in a coastal environment.
Habitat This species breeds in
coast live oak woodland or chaparral dominated by scrub oak.
Los Osos Oaks State Natural Reserve features ancient sand dunes covered with centuries - old
coast live oak trees.Large groves of non-native eucalyptus trees attract the annually migrating Monarch butterflies to Los Osos.
While many other species of oaks in California are deciduous (they lose their leaves),
the coast live oak is evergreen.
Monarch butterflies travel hundreds of miles each fall to bask in the warmth of secluded eucalyptus, Monterey pine and
coast live oak groves along the central California coast.
