VICTORIA — B.C.'s New Democrats stood up for
residents of
coastal communities Tuesday as several hundred British Columbians gathered
at the legislature to protest the B.C. Liberals» reckless cuts to ferry services.

coastal marine habitats including the greater reef complex itself, beach forests that support several important species of
resident and migratory birds and
at least 2 species of marine turtles are believed to nest on the range.
There are various beachfront resorts in Isla Verde, as well as residential condominium properties; while tourists are enjoying a day
at the beach, most
residents are
at work, making the beaches surprisingly uncrowded compared to other
coastal city destinations.
The livelihood of tens of millions of
coastal residents are
at risk.
Because much of humanity, including many
residents of the world's major cities like Kolkata (Calcutta), London, Shanghai, and Washington, DC, are located in vulnerable
coastal areas, hundreds of millions of people are directly
at risk.
Imagine knowing how your city or state will cope with drier and warmer conditions over the next 30 years; imagine getting a tornado warning an hour in advance providing an opportunity to get your family properly sheltered; imagine being able to evacuate only those
coastal residents that will be directly impacted by a hurricane and not unnecessarily clearing hundreds of miles of the coast; imagine being able to tell a fire incident manager where the fire front will be in 6 hrs; imagine airline routing system that knows where a squall line will be in 12 hrs and the resulting efficiency in airport acceptance rates; or imagine air quality predictions that would allow the time for special precautions to be taken for those
at risk.
«2030 isn't that far from now,» he said, adding that some leaders in
coastal communities are looking
at a host of responses, including steps to reduce emissions to reduce impacts and thereby the costs for detailed plans for community evacuation, and well - orchestrated plans for returning
residents to their homes.
