You are probably noticing
the coat closet on the left.
I thought about adding hooks underneath the shelf, but then decided to leave them off because there's
a coat closet on the right wall (which we don't even use as it is!)
In the home we just sold we had a small entry that had
a coat closet on one wall and antique oak small dresser with a lamp, usually a vase of fresh flowers from the grocery store and a scented candle and a small gilded framed mirror above.
I see a lot of
coat closets on Pinterest that look beautifully organized, but most of them are lacking one key thing... coats!

In a box at the back of my
closet, a few last things remain: odds and ends sent
on to me in Washington by my mother, for the most part, as she came across them here and there in long - unopened moving cartons stacked in the basement or old shoe boxes hidden for years
on the shelves behind the winter

When my husband walks in the front door, he takes off his
coat and deposits it directly
on the floor — not
on the
coat hooks within arm's reach or in the two
closets at his disposal.
I used basic
closet items like my skinny black pants and striped top as the base, then went
on to add hero / statement items which included the outerwear which adds another layer and a little something extra (the flare and cut of the bottom of this
coat are so unique!)

coat -LCB- which I would of bought too if I already didn't have a leopard
coat in my
closet -RCB-.

That's why even though I have a tiny, well edited
closet I always make room to keep a few winter
coats on rotation.
Mitch and I obviously share the
coat closet in our home, but I'll admit that my jackets very often impede
on his side.

Spring is
on it's way, which means that we can put all our winter
coats and knits somewhere far away in the
closet.
We now have a mudroom, but it's VERY small (albeit functional - with a wide
coat closet with a shelf for baskets, hooks
on the wall and....
The days we must wait before the sun is at its fullest in our backyards is called transition time, you know you're in the transition from winter to summer because you've put away your super warm jackets
on the storage
closet but you still need a light
coat for those chilly mornings and nights.
I pulled it from the back of my
closet (literally because it's still wrinkled and all, should have ironed it...), put
on those overknee boots and draped this long blazer /
coat over my shoulder.

Prior to our trip to London, I was
on the hunt for the perfect plaid jacket (favorites here) and almost forgot that this Burberry
coat was hiding in my
closet.
Puffer
coats may not be the most elegant or pretty jackets (I have friends that hate them and have none in their
closets), but they are really good at keeping you warm and cozy
on the colder days, so for me, that's a pretty good reason to own one.
Wool
coats can be more
on the pricier side, but are a great investment item to have in your
closet.
Since I was 13 I've had my one trench
coat that I would pull out from the waaayyyy back of my
closet a handful of times a year
on crazy rainy days (which are few and far in between here in LA) or whenever I wanted to look a little more «professional.»

coat at the end of last season and it's been waiting patiently in my
closet ready to pounce
on a winter day.
And while I didn't mind stocking up
on fall favorites during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I'm not quite ready to start adding more sweaters and
coats to my
closet just yet.

closet, waiting for the warm Cali weather to give for just a moment.

closet saver!
We all probably have at least one denim
