It's more of a quaint period piece by today's standards, but Cagney's
cocksure performance means it still entertains to this day.

performance since Jeremy Irons in Dead Ringers) is
cocksure and woman-wise to Charlie's twitchy self - loathing in a way that reminds of the swinger / nebbish iteration of the Jekyll / Hyde interplay.
The
cocksure and smarmy
performance from James Franco is certainly gag - worthy but it's somehow outshone by the spam of a
performance from Mila Kunis as the poorly makeup - ed Wicked Witch.
Her section of the film is closely aligned with DA Pennebaker's 1967 documentary Don't Look Back, as Jude teases the British press (personified by BBC reporter Bruce Greenwood) with a series of non-sequiturs and riddles; and Blanchett comes closer than anyone to really capturing the spirit of the man, with the dry humour and
cocksure swagger of her
performance being brilliantly observed.
As for Cruise, he's all
cocksure arrogance — like most of his
performances throughout the 80's — but he's perfectly fitting and delivers one of the more grounded and mature
performances of his career.
