coconut butter at Whole Foods north by the nut butters (across from things like Lara bars), but I think they have it near the raw / vegan station at the mother ship downtown.
Frustrated with our limited snacking options, we decided to experiment with making our own
coconut butter at home.
I don't have
any coconut butter at home, but I just picked up some coconut oil for the first time two days ago (I love the flavor it adds!).

I make my own
coconut butter at home on the cheap (I even put a «recipe» / set of instructions for homemade coconut butter in Practically Raw), so throwing this together was a cinch.

the coconut butter at Whole Foods for a while now, but $ 15 for a jar of anything is just not happening anytime soon.
I just found
coconut butter at TJMaxx, they have lots of organic, unrefined coconut products and I also got myself some Himalayan pink salt!!

Today I'll be showing you how to make
Coconut Butter from scratch,
at home, with only one ingredient.
Without getting too «sciencey» on you, saturated fats come from (mostly) animal sources and are solid
at room temperature (
butter, cream, egg, lard,
coconut oil, etc.).
Room temperature
at my house is in the upper 70s in September, and
coconut butter is in liquid form
at this temperature.
Making nut
butters at home is really rewarding, because they taste so much better than store bought ones, are usually cheaper, and you can enjoy the cleanest nut
butter ever with just the nut (and optionally
coconut sugar and sea salt) as the only ingredient, instead of a bunch of chemicals and random ingredients that aren't necessary.
I was originally actually just looking for plain ol'
coconut butter, but they didn't have any
at the store, so I went with this!
If you want to sweeten or salt your pistachio
butter (totally optional, I prefer to do both though), once your
butter is ready, add your
coconut sugar and salt (do a little less
at first, you can always add more) and process for another minute to make sure everything combined.
If
coconut butter is not soft
at room temperature, soften slightly in the microwave.It's ok if a small amount is melted and liquid.
