This following years of Waterbabies / Puddleducks, persuading babies / toddlers in and out of the water in the depths of
winter (when the LAST thing you wanted to do was submerge yourself to watch your little angel swim, but did so anyway because the other mothers seemed to care enough about their cherubs to do it week in, week out) and then
spending ALL
DAY rushing around with wet hair in the freezing
cold (because who has time to wash their hair?).
There's something about the short,
cold days of
winter, the long hours
spent indoors and the daily diet of heavier foods over the
winter months that inspires us to make changes as we begin to move toward longer
days and the anticipation of warmer weather.
For jittery kids who
spend all
day at school or too much time indoors during
cold winter months, a weighted blanket may be just the trick to calm nervous energy before bed and help to prolong deep sleep.
Now that I know I'll be
spending a
Winter in Helsinki, I know that a great pair of boots, warm coat and such are very much necessary to survive the
cold days.

Nearly all of these Americans, whatever their troubles learning French, their spells of homesickness, and their suffering in the raw
cold winters by the Seine,
spent many of the happiest
days and nights of their lives in Paris.
They are rugged, hardy, large dogs equipped with the thickest coats, making them ideal candidates for romps in the snow, jumps in the lakes, and general time
spent in the great outdoors in those
cold winter days.

While this was a perfectly enjoyable way to
spend a few hours by myself and unwind at the end of a long
day (especially on
cold winter nights where exercising outside in the dark had absolutely no appeal), it quickly became either impossible or too expensive once I started traveling to far flung destinations.
After a
cold (and dark)
winter, those of us in daylight saving zones will be glad to «spring forward» an hour come March 11 at 2:00 a.m.. From that point forward, the
days will grow increasingly longer, we'll
spend more time outdoors and everything will just feel better (once we recover from that lost hour of sleep, of course).
