When our
district began refining its instructional vision in 2012, we turned to Powerful Learning Practices and Sheryl Nussbaum - Beach as a necessary first step to help lead and facilitate the planning and goal - setting, and to
work with us as we designed and implemented Professional Learning
Collaboratives (PD training) that were needed to connect our teachers and administrators across the curriculum and grade levels.
During the Vergara trial,
districts including El Monte, Long Beach San Juan and others that have effective and
collaborative ways of
working with teachers defended the education codes.
In 2012, Steve continued his
collaborative work with a partnership
with teacher leaders within United Teachers of Los Angeles and Los Angeles Unified School
District to create teacher - designed hybrid learning pilot schools in Silverlake and West Los Angeles, and the scaling and oversight of Green Dot New York, a school founded by Randi Weingarten and Steve Barr.
IEL
works with schools,
districts, cross-sector leadership
collaboratives and community teams, providing planning and implementation support, facilitation and coaching.
While ISBE is
working out the details on how IL - EMPOWER will operate, CEC is interested in meeting
with districts and schools looking to utilize a
collaborative approach to school improvement through IL - EMPOWER.
In partnership
with NewSchools Venture Fund, we
work with a diverse group of
district, charter, and private school operators on a 10 - month journey — The
Collaborative — to accelerate their trajectories towards next generation school models.
The improvement strategies were created and pursued in a
collaborative, coordinated manner,

Through a project called Algebra by Design, funded by Lucent Technologies, we are
working with teachers in grades 5 - 12 in the Syracuse City School
District to (a) increase significantly the number of students who are successful in learning the core ideas of algebra, (b) increase the depth of algebraic understanding of all students and enhance their problem - solving skills in mathematically challenging design projects and activities, (c) provide teachers
with experience and
collaborative support in the use of Standards - based curricula, design projects, and current and emerging technologies, and (d) prepare new teachers in partnership
with practicing teachers through observations, field placements, and semester - long internships.
In 2008 E3 Alliance,
with United Way, Education Service Center Region 13 and San Marcos School
District, led a
collaborative of Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers, early childhood experts, and community members who
worked for almost two years, taking the best measures available, to develop the first standard for school readiness in the history of the state of Texas.
We
work with districts to create a concrete framework for turning
collaborative commitments into
collaborative action.
CEC provides a variety of services to support this essential first step on the pathway, including
working with union,
district, and school leadership to build
collaborative structures.
The second day started off
with Ed Honowitz, Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation,
with an overview of the
work of the California Labor - Management Initiative, which is building a network of
districts focused on building and strengthening
collaborative cultures to deepen student learning in California schools and
districts.
CEC
works with union and
district leadership, teachers, administrators, and board members to build
collaborative structures and processes at the
district, school, and classroom level to implement school transformation and drive instructional improvement.

with clear parameters for fidelity and improvement.
Turner coordinated regional planning efforts to respond to the education funding crisis; developed and monitored
collaborative work with local civic and elected officials focusing on school success; and was part of a small team, led by the mayor, that successfully averted an impending strike by negotiating a settlement between the Portland school
district and the Portland Association of Teachers.
District - hired coaches spent an average of 92 % of their time, averaged over two years,
working with teachers in what researchers have called «potentially productive coaching activities,» such as co-teaching, modeling, observing, giving feedback, or preparing for

The School and
District Improvement (SDI)
collaborative supports members as they
work with schools and
districts to support the lowest - performing schools, close achievement gaps for all students and increase support for specific subgroup populations.
As we
work with Nevada's school
districts and educators in the embrace of the
collaborative classroom experience, in this week's Tuesday Conversation we ask Washoe County School
District Superintendent Traci Davis a single question: What does collaboration mean to you?

We built a Web platform that leverages the
work of a curriculum
collaborative and provides school
districts with hundreds of standards - aligned curriculum and assessment components that they can implement immediately.
During my 12 years as president of the United Federation of Teachers, I
worked closely
with parents and community allies to improve New York City schools through initiatives like the Community
Collaborative to Improve
District 9 Schools, a community - led school turnaround program in the south Bronx.
This action research looks at the impact that a newly adopted curriculum and specific
district and school supports had on teacher's ability to support students to elaborate in written and oral responses, to engage
with higher order thinking tasks, and use protocols to support
collaborative student
work.
