dive sites on the regular Small Hope Bay Lodge
dive schedule, including
colorful shallow reefs, coral gardens, wreck
dives, breathtaking blue holes and stunning wall
dives at the edge of the continental shelf, where the Tongue of the Ocean plunges to 6,000 feet.
Most of the
dive sites are pristine coral reefs with
colorful soft corals and crinoids, vast staghorn coral fields and huge table corals in the
shallow parts, giant elephant ears in the deeper parts, giant sponge barrels along the slopes.
There are many
dive operators who can help you explore the world beneath the waves, whether you want to see the region's wildlife, such as whale sharks, turtles, and
colorful groupers, or the many shipwrecks that lie stranded in the
shallow waters.
For a gentle and
shallow dive with an easy current and
colorful coral, head to the Rubiah Sea Garden and say hello to the turtles.
This famous
dive spot is
shallower than «The Wall,» and is home to an abundance of healthy,
colorful coral reefs.
This
dive site was ideal for macro lovers considering the abundant amount of
colorful nudibranchs, sea slugs and flatworms spotted by our
dive guides especially in the
shallows, together with crustaceans like the Hairy Shrimp; besides that it was an opportunity to spot a Denise Pygmy Seahorse!
The end of the
dive happened in a beautiful
shallow plateau that hosts a lot of different,
colorful soft coral species lighted by the sunny afternoon we had.
This has to be one of the best
dive sites in Asia for open water students or those who just like to
dive in easy conditions a see the stuff of the underwater movies... from two
shallow entry points on sandy bottoms the surrounding area is covered in hard coral,, giant table corals, staghorn coral, cabbage coral ans many many many other hard coral species thrive here, around twenty five bommies rise to about 5m which attract
colorful fish galore, you can reach a depth of about 20m, but the best stuff is between 5 and 12m making it a perfect second or third
dive of the day.
Closer to the pearl farm we did our third
dive, in Channel Island, a
shallow plateau that descends into a wall where the soft coral, especially in
shallow waters, is impressive and
colorful, especially in pink tonalities.
