Executed in 2015, Untitled is one of a handful of
colossal square paintings based on wildlife photographs lifted from a vintage German calendar where each month was accompanied by a different animal from a regional landscape — each painstakingly painted to mimic the original condition of the photographic image.
So does the judicious hang, in which a few key works from Stella's early days pop up in the later galleries; a 1962
painting of concentric rainbow
squares hangs next to a
colossal 2009 assemblage of fibreglass and steel.
