When I take a look at combat, it is still true to the Assassin's Creed style, while evolving its melee
combat in a nice way.

This alternative approach to
combat is
nice, and stealth - sneaking your
way around the enemies is fun, even with the added pressure of being killed
in one hit.
It's not an evolution of what's come before
in any
way, but it is a
nice reminder of how fun fighting a big mob of enemies can be when utilizing this form of
combat!
And that's certainly not to say that the
combat is any
way bad, because it isn't: it's more challenging than what we usually see
in todays games, has some
nice touches» and demands a more steady approach, but it just feels a little awkward
in its execution.
It's
nice to see designers thinking about what
ways these wonderful «space marine» armors could change
combat, and while the scale of powered armor doesn't exactly match that of mecha, and thus is really a whole different kettle of fish, a lot of the solutions are the same — just as giant robots shouldn't be treated as human analogues, humans
in powered armor should have different skillsets following from their upgrade.
After several dozen stages of awesome stealth - based infiltration, inching your
way through various environments while avoiding detection and exacting gruesome stealth kills (displayed via Disney - quality animation, which is a
nice juxtaposition) and occasionally engaging
in some of the best - executed «one vs. many»
combat mechanics ever, eventually everything just goes to hell for the hero.
Last Recode doesn't lack
in any
way — the games do a
nice job of having characters evolve naturally, and the narrative really doesn't need to rely on the kind of pacing it does early on when
combat feels as if it is an afterthought.
